Things got a bit weird for all of us in the various lockdowns. I had several mix and mastering jobs on the go, so in that respect I am really lucky and grateful that I can remain busy during this time. The commute from the house to the garden can get a little monotonous. We have been doing this since March last year! Anything to provide a little change of “scene”. Right up to the initial lockdown, we’d been going to our local Open Mic Night, every first Wednesday of the month. It was a great time to hang out with like minded musos, have a few drinks and wind down. Although, you can’t let me loose anywhere near sound equipment, so I’d end up helping the guys out, setting up and doing a bit of F.O.H. And occasionally we’d all end up on stage together!
When Bonzo and Jon Dunn, The Lasso The Moon founders asked me to get involved with some isolation session, I jumped on it.
Because LTM is such a community driven project, it’s such a lovely thing to be involved with. It gives a bunch of the Open Mic Night guys and galls an opportunity to still make music. A song is chosen, then they decide who’s taking on which role and we go from there. Everyone records and films their part and then it lands at the Sonic Cuisine to be mixed with the occasional addition of my own vocals and guitar. It has forced me to step up my guitar practice!
We’re now 11 sessions in and there is more to come.
